It is always handy to have a first aid kit for your pet. It's one of those things that you hope you will never need but you are truly grateful for when you do. If you have your pet first aid kit ready, should the unfortunate need ever arrive, you will have what you need to hand to care for the situation quickly and effectively.
So, here's our list for your pet first aid kit:
Muzzle to prevent biting due to pain
Regular tweezers & needle nose tweezers
Saline eye & wound wash
Digital rectal thermometer
Hand sanitizer
Non latex disposable gloves
Antiseptic (such as betadine)
Vet wrap bandage roll
Gauze roll
Gauze pads / Non-stick bandages
Clean cotton sock
Cotton washcloths
First aid adhesive tape
Styptic powder (Quick stop - to stop the bleeding if you cut the quick in a nail)
Blunt scissors
Oral syringe
Spare leash
Having these items in your pet first aid kit should cover you for most situations. Remember, if you have a medical situation you should ALWAYS contact your vet for advice. They will tell you how to proceed and you will have the items to do the job. If you don't know how to do something, don't just guess, please get advice as you could end up doing more harm than good.
There are loads of pet first aid courses available both online and in person and we recommend that everyone should learn pet CPR at least once.
We hope you'll find this list helpful!
