Adoption Interview: Julia and Loki

This week we spoke to the amazing Julia about her thoughts on her experience adopting the cutest boy Loki as a little puppy from KLAWS!

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your pet?

My boyfriend and I moved to Ireland about 3 years ago and after just 2 weeks we took in a little Tripod Kittie.

Last April our little family grew when we adopted a Collie Puppy: Loki.He is the best boy, full of energy once he plays and runs after his ball but pretty relaxed in the house. He is very smart, learns commands easily and even switches off the light in the evening for us. He is pretty much the center of my universe and I love spending time with him.

2. Why did you want to adopt?

Ever since I was a child I was obsessed with animals and always wanted to have a dog. So the question wasn’t about the "if" but the "when". So when my work changed to home office during Covid I thought that it’s the best moment to adopt. Surprisingly the landlord was fine with it so the "hunt" for the new family member started. I always wanted to offer my home to a rescue dog that nobody wants but with our special cat everyone recommended to adopt a puppy. The kitty can’t run too fast and is not able to jump, so it was important to us that he will show the dog who is the boss and feel safe. Then I met Loki and it was love at first sight.

3. How did you see the pet you adopted?

I actually contacted KLAWS about a different rescue dog that was already adopted by then. But I was told that a litter of Collie puppies would arrive soon. Just two weeks later we were invited to visit him and fell in love instantly. Another week of waiting to finally bring him home felt like the longest week of my life.

4. Why did you choose KLAWS?

We live in Cork so to be honest, I’ve never heard of KLAWS before. Just when I started doing research I came across it and was positively surprised about the immediate response and met the great Jill that fostered our future puppy. I was (and still am) amazed as to how KLAWS is run by volunteers and solely rely on fosterers as they don’t have a shelter.

5. Do you have any advice for people currently adopting or thinking about adopting a pet?

Adopting has been the best thing I’ve done and I couldn’t imagine my life without him anymore. Just keep in mind how much your life will change. It’s an addition to your family that comes with additional responsibilities and consequences for your life like travelling plans and costs. It’s better to think about it twice rather than changing your mind and breaking your animals heart.
